Statement Regarding Supreme Court Leak
I-4 Corridor Catholics urges pastors and individuals to pray and educate themselves and others regarding consistent Church teaching on abortion and ways to act on those teachings in light of the leaked decision in Dobbs

*For immediate release*
The I-4 Corridor Catholics (I4CC) chapter of Catholic Vote Action Network today issued the following press release regarding the leaked draft majority opinion in Dobbs vs. Jackson Women’s Health Organization:
“While we are very disturbed by the unprecedented leak of a SCOTUS decision, we cannot help but be encouraged by the majority opinion contained therein. Several of the major points made in the leaked document echo Catholic teaching, not just regarding the consistent Church teaching against abortion (as evidenced in the Didache, an ancient text of the Apostolic fathers dating to 70 A.D.) but also teachings on social justice, e.g., care for the most vulnerable among us.
As the Church’s moral teachings have often been opposed through the centuries, the Supreme Court also appears to have come to the realization that they “cannot exceed the scope of our authority under the Constitution, and we cannot allow our decisions to be affected by extraneous influences such as concern about the public’s reaction to our work.” To borrow from Catholic writer G.K. Chesterton, “Fallacies do not cease to be fallacies because they become fashions.”
Adherence to consistent magisterial teaching is entirely consistent with caring for others in need. This is the reason the vast multitude of crisis pregnancy centers exist – particularly, Catholic centers like JMJ Pregnancy Centers (https://jmjpc.org) and Life Choices Medical Clinic (https://www.lifechoicesfl.com/), as well as many more from other faith communities. These free, pro-life clinics outnumber abortion clinics by many multiples, so we may minister to the needs of child and mother.
Finally, over the next few weeks until the official decision is rendered in the Dobbs case, we encourage pastors – Catholic and otherwise – to prayerfully consider the following action items:
-
Speak boldly in homilies and sermons in support of Church teaching against abortion and for life;
-
Lead public prayers for the safety and protection (body and soul) of all the Supreme Court justices;
-
Lead public prayers for Catholic politicians (e.g., President Biden and Governor DeSantis) that they will promote a culture of life that recognizes and protects the human person from conception to natural death;
-
Host Holy Hours of Eucharistic Adoration, both for the overturning of Roe v. Wade and in reparation for the offenses against life since 1973 when Roe v. Wade was decided.
I4CC also encourages individuals to:
-
Pray for peace and conversion of hearts, so no violence results from protests of this court decision;
-
Read “The Gospel of Life” by Pope St. John Paul II to educate yourself about Church teaching;
-
Call or email Gov. DeSantis and your state representatives to show your support for the recent legislation (H.B. 5) protecting unborn babies after 15 weeks and encourage them to pass legislation providing full legal protection of the unborn in Florida;
-
Teach your children the value and sanctity of human life by having them pray with you “for all babies to have birthdays.”
Taking these actions will ensure that the Church’s legacy of life continues in our pro-life state of Florida.”
